Who Are We?

Dignity Lifestyle Retirement Township is an undertaking by its parent organisation, Dignity Foundation. Dignity Foundation has been engaged in Elder Care since 1995, providing support services, life enrichment, information and advocacy. To this list of services was added ‘Shelter’ in 2006, when the first resident moved in to live in Dignity Lifestyle Retirement Township. Since then, Dignity Lifestyle has grown to accommodate a thriving senior community in both independent and assisted living quarters.

Dignity Foundation

Dignity Foundation offers senior citizens opportunities to lead an active life, both physically and mentally. It provides social support that facilitates productive living in people aged 50+. Dignity’s active programmes motivate and inspire senior citizens, and help them achieve fulfilment in life. These aims and values are passed on to Dignity Lifestyle, and are at the heart of everything we do at our retirement facility.

our
ethos

We have adopted the Eden Alternative principles of active living:

  • The three plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom account for the bulk of suffering in a human community.
  • Life in a truly human community revolves around close and continuing contact with children, plants and animals. These ancient relationships provide young and old alike with a pathway to a life worth living.
  • Loving companionship is the antidote to loneliness. In a human community, we must provide easy access to human and animal companionship.
  • To give care to another makes us stronger. To receive care gracefully is a pleasure and an art. A healthy human community promotes both of these virtues in its daily life, seeking always to balance one with the other.
  • Trust in each other allows us the pleasure of answering the needs of the moment. When we fill our lives with variety and spontaneity, we honor the world and our place in it.
  • Meaning is the food and water that nourishes the human spirit. It strengthens us. The counterfeits of meaning tempt us with hollow promises. In the end, they always leave us empty and alone.
  • Medical treatment should be the servant of genuine human caring, never its master.
  • In a human community, the wisdom of the elders grows in direct proportion to the honour and respect accorded to them.
  • Human growth must never be separated from human life.
  • Wise leadership is the lifeblood of any struggle against the three plagues. For it, there can be no substitute.

Funny, isn’t it? You’ve worked hard all your life, hoping that someday you could put your feet up on a sunny porch and do nothing more than read a book.

Why Dignity?

When that day finally arrives, you start to miss the frenetic pace of everyday life - feeling left11 out and without purpose. You don’t want to slow down. You wish you could turn back the clock and start rushing again. However prepared you think you are for retirement, the reality is very different, and the emptiness looms large. Suddenly, the period of your life that you yearned for all your working years no longer holds the same appeal. You begin to feel that this is the start of old age, and it is downhill from here.

  • We have been in the field of direct intervention for more than two decades
  • We have our finger on the pulse of senior citizens
  • We have adopted the best practices in Senior Living from abroad
  • We have appointed professionals trained in Elder Care
  • Our pricing structure is the most elder-friendly, and light on the purse
  • Our township is managed directly by Trust-appointed service providers
  • We are located at salubrious, pollution-free foothills covered with greenery

new
beginings

You aren’t the only one who feels this way. Most people who are recently retired or approaching retirement experience similar thoughts. At Dignity, we’ve spent a quarter of a century working with senior citizens to understand exactly how you feel. And it has only helped us serve you better.

Dignity Lifestyle looks at retirement from a whole new perspective: Not as the onset of old age where you settle comfortably into a rocking chair, but rather the beginning of an ‘active’ new life where you can deploy your skills to serve society, and feel gainfully employed once again. Help local village children learn English, participate in rural development projects, or explore your abilities with new hobbies and interests - who says only the young can make a difference?

Your loved ones may look after you and tend to your physical needs but at Dignity Lifestyle our social workers, specially trained in Geriatric and Gerontological Care, can cater to your emotional and psychological needs as well, so you can continue leading a fulfilling and enriching life.

our 78-room assisted living facility gives lifetime attendant care to those who need it. and when it all gets too much, we have in-house psychologists conducting regular group therapy sessions and providing a necessary release for pent-up emotions and worries.

Our staff

Dignity Lifestyle employs a variety of care-givers, from social workers specially trained in Geriatric and Gerontological Care to medically-qualified professionals. We have a resident doctor available 24x7, and we arrange for regular visits by ophthalmic, orthopaedic, cardiac, ENT, dental and physiotherapy specialists. The Township also employs two in-house counsellors for psychotherapy.

Dignity Lifestyle takes measures to ensure the well-being of care-givers, especially those working with residents affected by Frontotemporal disease (FTD - politically correct term for ‘dementia’) and Corticobasal disease, so that they in turn can give their best and most devoted service. We conduct regular workshops for staff and help them de-stress using a combination of gentle counselling and meditation techniques. In addition, our bimonthly team-bonding staff picnics help them cultivate a strong personality and an optimistic and cheerful demeanour, two qualities that ensure our Elder Care makes a difference.
